on penalties) Montrose made it through to next Tuesday’s draw for the third tound of the Irnbru Cup with a 6-5 win on penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time at Somerset Park.

The Gable Endies took the lead in the second minute when Iain Campbell scored from a 20-yard free-kick, but Ayr drew level on 28 minutes, Craig Moore slotting home from 15 yards. Michael Moffat went close for Ayr early in the second half with an overhead kick before being denied by another smart stop by Jordan Millar just after the hour. The home side went close again when Robbie Crawford headed against the woodwork .

With little goalmouth action in extra-time, the match went to penalties, with Connor Mclaren striking the decisive spot-kick.
