Bentley unveils third-generation Continental GT
Bentley has pulled the covers off its new thirdgeneration Continental GT, ahead of the luxurious grand tourer’s global debut at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
While the new model retains the classic shape of its predecessor, the styling influences from the EXP 10 Speed 6 concept revealed at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show are evident.
The Continental GT’S headlights occupy a more commanding position at the front of the car, while the elliptical tail lights ape those seen on the 2015 concept.
Under the bonnet, Bentley has fitted an enhanced version of its 6.0-litre, twin-turbocharged W12 engine, which now produces 626bhp and 664lb/ftof torque.
This enables the Continental GT to complete the dash from 0-60mph in just 3.6 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 207mph.
To help the new grand tourer shift through its gears, Bentley has also employed a new eight-speed, dualclutch transmission. Power is sent to all four wheels via a new active all-wheel-drive system.
The cabin is as luxurious as you would expect from a Bentley, with plenty of leather and wood used throughout. The new Bentley Rotating Display is a particular highlight. Upon start-up, a wooden panel in the dashboard rotates to reveal a large 12.3-inch touchscreen display used to control features such as satellite navigation and Apple Carplay. A third side of the rotating display houses three analogue dials – displaying outside temperature, a chronometer and a compass.
Exact launch dates and price haven’tbeen confirmed but dont’ expect it to be cheap.
