Chief can boss Hamilton field

Ebor-winning jockey Rodriguez aboard Dods’ hope

- By GORDON BROWN

Last week he was winning the Ebor for Scotland on Nakeeta and, seven days later, Callum Rodriguez is after the feature race at Hamilton Park. The Lancashire-born apprentice partners Camacho Chief for Michael Dods and the Darlington raider is one of ten declared for the £20,000 BB Foodservice 2-Y-O Series Final.

Dods said: “He’s a progressive type of juvenile and is unlucky not to be unbeaten in his two visits to Hamilton.

“He won a novice stakes and was only pipped by a short head in a similar race the time before. The ground should be fine and he was impressive in a nursery at Musselburgh. He’s gone up 9lb for that and he is bred to stay this longer trip.”

The lone Scottish entry is Keith Dalgleish’s Corton Lass. Her last three spins have been at Hamilton, including fifth place on nursery debut over this same 6f distance.

Top trainer Richard Fahey is triple-handed with Quayside, Sinaloa and Clubbable who was beaten by a nose in the closest of photo finishes over course and distance in July.

Whatsthemessage has been on the go since 3 January and Dalgleish’s charge bids for her fifth win of the campaign in the colours of Ronnie Docherty in the Bet totetrifecta At bedfred. com EBF Fillies’ Handicap.

The card gets underway with Donald Mccain’s two daughters in action aboard a couple of course and distance winners in the Bet toteplacepot At betfred.com Amateur Riders’ Handicap. Abby partners topweight Picks Pinta for John Riches, while 16-year-old Ella partners Reflation for Patrick Holmes.

At Sandown, Nathra could emerge the leading light in the Atalanta Stakes.

Trainer John Gosden won the Group Three a year ago with Persuasive and must surely fancy his chances of repeating the dose with this daughter of Iffraaj.

Runner-up in the Fillies’ Mile as a juvenile, the four-year-old has perhaps not quite kicked on as one might have expected.

But she ably demonstrated at Newbury last time that there are still good races to be won with her. There are an awful lot of positives today in an open-looking race.
