Students get a boost with thumping win

Edinburgh University finished on a high note in their own tournament at Peffermill yesterday with a comfortabl­e 5-2 win over English side Loughborou­gh in their final match before the start of the league campaign next week.

Goals by Alan Oldham, Simon Blaschke, Davyn Keuter, George Adams and Ruaraidh Campbell gave the students a comfortabl­e win.

Grove Menzieshil­l were also in winning form at Peffermill. The Taysiders crushed Watsonians 4-0 with the goals coming from Albert Rowling, Ollie James, Gavin Byers and Guy Rowson. Menzieshil­l were the only unbeaten side in the tournament. Earlier they saw off the Edinburgh students 2-1.

In the women’s event, the host side thumped Grange 6-0 but had earlier suffered a shock 1-0 defeat by Watsonians.

They recovered to crush English side Whitley Bay 9-2.
