Macrae magic drives Skye to cup triumph
It was third time lucky for Skye Camanachd as they finally secured the top prize in women’s shinty, lifting the Marine Harvest Valerie Fraser Cup thanks to a 6-1 victory over Lochaber in the final at An Aird, Fort William
Previous final disappointments against Glasgow Mid Argyll in 2014 and Loch ab erin 2016 were banished to the history books as Skye took the initiative from the start, Lorna Macrae’s first-half hat-trick giving them a 3-1 interval lead.
Macrae played a captain’s role, netting twice more after the restart and earning the player of the match award. Jenna Beaton scored Skye’s other goal with Alison Macvicar scoring for Lochaber.
The Marine Harvest Challenge Cup, a competition for women’s developing teams outwith the top division, was won by Glengarry who beat Ardnamurchan 7-1 earlier in the day.
