Two thieves who impersonated police officers to steal a man’s BMW have been jailed for a total of almost six years.

David Gordon, 20, and Brian Murdoch, 21, used stolen police uniforms to fool Syed Ahmed into thinking they were officers helping him trace his lost phone.

When he went into his house to get paperwork to prove the lost mobile was his, they stole his car. At Glasgow Sheriff Court, the pair admitted impersonating police and stealing the BMW on 17 May this year.

They also admitted assaulting Douglas Frame, 58, and his wife Lesley, 54, a month earlier at Glasgow Road, Paisley, by threatening them with a knife and robbing them of their car.

Gordon pleaded guilty to other charges including stealing a car in March in Blair Street, Glasgow. Yesterday, Sheriff Daniel Scullion told the pair that “no disposal other than a significant custodial one” was appropriate. He ordered that Gordon return to Polmont Young Offenders’ Institute for a year before serving a 31-monthsentence.hehanded Murdoch 38 months.
