Welcome to Dumfries: Prince of Wales shows Irish guests around stately home
Prince Charles welcomed the president of Ireland, Michael D Higgins, and his wife Sabina, to Dumfries House in Ayrshire yesterday. Celebrations are being held to mark a decade since the stately home was opened to the public after being bought over by the Prince’s Trust. The estate now attracts around 24,000 visitors each year and employs 150 people. The 2000acre estate is also used to host educational programmes, skills training and offers woodland walkways and an outdoor swimming pool.
