Presenter captures beauty of Hebrides

- By TOM DARE

A series of images from a book by BBC presenter Paul Murton have helped capture the beauty of the Hebrides.

White sandy beaches, clifftop lighthouses and tranquil bays are all among the pictures featured in the book, taken by the presenter during several visits to the islands.

Another image shows the multicoloured house fronts of the town of Tobermory on Mull. Another is of the Clachan bridge.

Murton was born in Argyll, Scotland, and grew up exploring the Hebrides.

He said: “The Hebrides are in my blood – and my enduring love for them was sealed by one of my very earliest memories.”

In the process of writing the book he travelled the length and breadth of Scotland’s rugged west coast, sailing to over 80 islands in the process.

The Hebrides by Paul Murton is published by Birlinn books. Paul Murton sailed to more than 80 Scottish islands, taking pictures of, clockwise from main; Old man of Stor on Skye; Duart Castle on Mull; Cliffs of Handa; Fingles Cave, Staffa
