Global attraction

Unlike the “International March for Scottish Independence” in Berlin last weekend, which hardly attracted any media attention in Germany, the official opening of the Queensferry Crossing enjoyed substantial coverage in the main German TV news.

Millions of viewers in Germany were treated to spectacular aerial images of the three majestic bridges spanning the Firth of Forth. The new crossing was described as an outstanding technical achievement. I was delighted to see my adopted home presented in this way to a nationwide audience in my native country. Personally, I feel that such an admirable engineering project is much better suited for representing Scotland than Tommy Sheridan and a small, Saltire-clad crowd walking the streets of Berlin.
