In the close season, talk is cheap. Many clubs claimed they’d do better than last time. Some spoke of winning a title or cup.

One talked of returning to their rightful place in Scottish football, because they have the best team in the country. Such talk can come back to bite you on the bum or end up on the opposition’s dressing-room wall.

For us, the only concession to optimism is the travelling support arriving with a beanie, scarf and pocket calculator!

We face Morton on Saturday and wily Jim Duffy has ensured many a win over the Pars. However, several were accomplished due to Declan Mcmanus, just one of the Athletic forwards who has contributed to our 30 goals.
