Call for gambling firms sponsor ban

-

Gambling firms should be banned from football shirt sponsorship deals, Labour has said.

With clubs including Celtic, Rangers and Hibs currently engaged in such sponsoring, shadow digital, culture, media and sport( DC MS) secretary Tom Watson said it was time to take action.

Expressing concern at a rise in problem gambling, Mr Watson insisted it was wrong for young fans to be exposed to the logos of betting firms on football shirts. Pentland Studios near Straiton, Midlothian, said they had “hoped” the first facilities would be operational by late 2018. The company says that the project has had to go through the planning process, including 15 elements to be approved with Midlothian Council, all of which are now agreed.
