Glory days/stephens wins all-american final
Sloane Stephens completed her remarkable comeback from injury by defeating fellow American Madison Keys 6-3, 6-0 in the final of the US Open to clinch her first Grand Slam title.
Stephens had an operation on a foot injury five months ago. She was not allowed to put any weight on her foot for 16 weeks and began her recuperation by hitting tennis balls sitting on a chair. Following her triumph at Flushing Meadows she lifted the trophy with wide-eyed incredulity, and collected a cheque for $3.7 million (£2.8 million).
