Five lions on loose in South Africa
South African authorities are searching for five lions believed to be roaming in the country’s most populous province. Drew Abrahamson, founder of conservation group Captured in Africa, said she and colleagues were contacted on Friday by police in Fochville, 37 miles south-west of Johannesburg. Police spotted the lions while investigating an animal carcass, Ms Abrahamson said.
She speculated that the lions were owned illegally because any legal owner would probably have notified authorities of missing predators.
A small plane is now searching for the lions.
