Rules airwaves?

-

News that the BBC did not broadcast Rule Britannia to Glaswegian and Welsh attendees of the Last Night of the Proms spin-off Proms in the Park concerts is an utter disgrace and one which will anger most Scots.

Rule Britannia’s words were written by a Scot in celebration of the great nation created by the union of Scotland and England in 1707. The fact that the BBC did not show it must be investigated as it would seem to indicate some degree of discrimination – otherwise why do it?

Lest there be the usual howls from our anti-union, separatist friends, I would add that the model for the first Britannia on British coins was also Scots. Any perceived bending of the knee by Auntie Beeb to our anti-english friends in the SNP must be fought assiduously. “Rule Britannia” is symbolic of our oneness as the British nation and those who seek to sow the seeds of separation must be firmly put in their place, as they were in 2014.
