Bayern and Barca open with three goals apiece
Five-time champions Bayern Munich opened their Champions League campaign with a flattering 3-0 win over ten-man Anderlecht.
Any chance of an upset by Anderlecht seemed to vanish after 11 minutes, when last man Sven Kums was sent off for hauling down Robert Lewandowski. TV replays showed the contact was outside the area, but the penalty was awarded and Lewandowski, pictured, dusted himself down to convert.
Midway through the second half, Joshua Kimmich crossed for Thiago Alcantara to double the lead.
Kimmich scored in the final minute to give the score a flattering look for Bayern. Lionel Messi summoned another mesmerising performance as Barcelona breezed to a 3-0 win over Juventus in Group D at the Nou Camp. Messi scored twice and set up the second for Ivan Rakitic as Barca capitalised on some dismal defending to claim some revenge for last season’s quarter-final loss.
