Edwards: Positive attitude vital as Thistle prepare for double-header

Partick Thistle midfielder Ryan Edwards insists the Jags will relish the chance to kickstart their season in the double-header against Rangers.

Alan Archibald’s side were denied their first Premiership victory of the campaign on Saturday after Ross County striker Alex Schalk converted an 86th-minute penalty to earn a share of the spoils in Dingwall.

But, after collecting their first point at the fifth attempt, Australian playmaker Edwards is adamant they are heading in the right direction ahead of Saturday’s league clash and Tuesday’s Betfred Cup-tie against Pedro Caixinha’s team.

Edwards said: “We have to remain positive, it’s a positive group in the squad. We’ve got two tough games coming up with two against Rangers. We’re off the mark now and it’s a matter of just continuing that.

“We’ll take the positives from the County game. We defended well for large parts and did well in parts. We have to remain positive and have a good week and try to focus on taking points off Rangers.”

Speaking to Jags Zone, Edwards added: “It felt like a defeat after being so close to the three points. To concede another late goal is brutally disappointing but we need to move forward.

“We didn’t get a grip of the game in the second half and that’s the disappointing thing.”

Rangers twice came from behind to score 90th-minute winners at the Energy Check Stadium last season and Jags manager Archibald wants his players to make amends this time around.

He added: “It’s another home game, a tough one but it’s at home and one team that we owe a performance or a victory to take something from is against Rangers off the back of last season’s two home games.”
