Sunday cinema plan on Lewis shelved
Plans to offer the first ever Sunday film screenings for locals on the Isle of Lewis have been shelved.
An Lanntair, a charity-run arts centre in Stornoway, had laid out proposals to open its art gallery and cinema on the Sabbath on a trial basis this winter. However, the centre has now announced it is mothballing the idea due to “operational challenges”.
Lewis and Harris are some of the last places where the tradition of giving Sundays over to rest and religious observance has remained strong.
