4.1 per cent of pupils in Scotland attend an independen­t school.

29,647 children and young people are in the 72 independen­t schools which are members of SCIS.

There are 19 mainstream boarding schools with 3,072 pupils and 46.5 per cent of boarders are from overseas.

SCIS schools provide at least £49 million annually in fee assistance, with 26.9 per cent of all pupils receiving some form of assistance.

3.2 per cent of senior school pupils receive 100 per cent fee assistance.

7,400 members of teaching and support staff are employed in the independen­t sector.

There is one teacher for every 8.6 pupils in SCIS schools.

93 per cent of pupils who sat Highers passed, with more than 55 per cent of entries awarded an A grade.
