First geese of the year arrive at wildlife reserve
The first of Montrose’s annual winter avian visitors have touched down at the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s (SWT) reserve at the area’s tidal basin
Around 300 pink-footed geese have been recorded so far, the first of tens of thousands that are expected to arrive from Iceland following an 800-mile migration. Their numbers have been increasing over the past few years and last year around 90,000 were recorded on Montrose Basin – the highest number ever. The SWT is holding a series of events in October to help visitors find out more about the birds.
