Deepening crisis: 400,000 arrive in Bangladesh after fleeing military crackdown

According to the UN, nearly 400,000 Rohingya have arrived in the country since 25 August after fleeing a crackdown launched by Myanmar’s military in response to attacks by Rohingya rebels.

Bangladeshi authorities have also taken steps to restrict the movement of Rohingya refugees living in border camps. Military chiefs in Myanmar claimed the chaos was the work of extremists seeking a stronghold in the country’s northern Rakhine state.
