Raith’s goal spree puts Queen’s to the sword and sends Fifers six points clear

- By CRAIG P STEWART

Raith Rovers moved six points clear at the top with a 5-0 romp at Queen’s Park.

Liam Buchanan’s thumping finish and Lewis Vaughan’s 15th goal in 11 games had the Kirkcaldy men in control after seven minutes. Dario Zanatta added a solo third on 56 minutes before Bobby Barr and Jason Thomson both scored from the edge of the box to round things off.

Raith manager Barry Smith said: “We are in a good place but there is a long way to go.”

Ayr United slipped further behind after a 3–3 Somerset Park draw with Alloa. However, it could have been worse for the hosts. Lawrence Shankland headed Ayr in front and the Wasps drew level before halftime when Frank Mckeown deflected the ball in. Kevin Cawley headed Alloa in front, only for Jamie Adams to reply. Shankland cracked in an injury-time equaliser after Scott Taggart’s penalty had made it 3-2.

Arbroath earned the bragging rights with a 5-0 derby success over hosts Forfar where Ryan Mccord’s penalty opened the scoring and Bobby Linn’s spot-kick closed it. In between, Thomas O’brien, Mccord, pictured, and Kane Hester found the net.

Albion Rovers again disappointed in Coatbridge as Stranraer enjoyed a 4-0 win.

Scott Agnew hit two penalties in his hat-trick and Paul Woods also scored, while Rovers had Jason Marr dismissed.

East Fife jumped above hosts Airdrie in the table with a 1-0 success, Mark Docherty’s penalty being decisive and the Diamonds lost Jake Hastie to a red card.
