Binos delight Mackay with return to winning ways

- By CRAIG P STEWART

Stirling Albion bounced back in style from their first league defeat by defeating second-placed Montrose 3-1 at Links Park.

Last weekend’s loss to Clyde was forgotten when Callumn Morrison netted on 13 minutes and Sean Dickson headed in the second just after half-time.

The Gable Endies pulled a goal back late on through Ryan Ferguson, but when an injury-time corner was cleared, Morrison ran clear to shoot into an unguarded net.

Stirling manager Dave Mackay said: “Montrose had been unbeaten so this was a great win.”

Peterhead won 4-0 at Cowdenbeath where Allan Smith scored twice in the first 20 minutes, Willie Gibson quickly grabbed a third and Scott Brown netted in the second half. Stenhousemuir stretched their unbeaten run to five games with a 1-1 draw at Annan. Mark Mcguigan gave the Warriors an early lead and Aidan Smith equalised from the penalty spot midway through the second half.

Berwick Rangers manager Robbie Horn secured a hard-fought first win with a 3-2 Shielfield success over Elgin. Bruce Anderson’s double had the visitors in charge but, in the final 17 minutes, Aaron Murrell struck twice before Michael Mckenna hit the winner.

Edinburgh City’s new striker Abdelkarim Belmokhtar grabbed a brace in a 3-2 win at Clyde. Max Wright struck for the hosts before Belmokhtar’s pair, but David Goodwillie equalised on 87 minutes.

Former Scotland striker Craig Beattie headed an injury-time winner seconds after Clyde defender Andy Munro was dismissed.
