Sore losers
Mike Russell, the Scottish National Party spokesman on Brexit, seems terribly worried that devolution may be slightly compromised by the taking back of European Union powers by Westminster rather than Holyrood.
Considering that the SNP think that devolution is not working anyway and full independence is the only way forward for Scotland, one has to question the reason for his concern.
Some of these powers must, by their very nature, be given back to Westminster first and then disseminated.
It is therefore obvious that the SNP is just using Brexit as an excuse and the row over what should be devolved or not is simply a stick to beat the government with. Common sense seems to have been thrown away in the rush to find grievances.
If the SNP wants to be taken as a credible alternative to rule Scotland it needs to come up with more sensible reasons to attack the government than this. At the moment they just look like sore losers. (DR) GERALD EDWARDS
Broom Road, Glasgow What utter tosh from SNP Brexit minister Mike Russell, who has produced a list of 111 areas where Scotland could lose out as a result of the legislation and is calling for amendments to the legislation taking the UK out of Europe.
This is just childish game-stopping tactics from an SNP determined to undermine and wreck the talks in any way they can in revenge for the pounding they took at the recent general Elections.
The SNP’S time would be better spent focusing on their main responsibilities of solving Scotland’s many problems instead of sweeping them under the carpet in total denial. DENNIS FORBES GRATTAN
Mugiemoss Road Bucksburn, Aberdeen Gordon Lawson (Letters 18 September) has joined Alexander Mckay in saying that the SNP should relinquish the administration of Scotland to “real” politicians. It would appear obvious that neither of these two gentlemen have much of an inkling as to how the democratic voting process in parliamentary elections works.
However, they are not so lacking in perspicacity as to attempt to name which of the opposition MSPS are better suited to govern the country.
