Generation game
I was delighted to read the article about recharging electric cars by plugging them into streetlight lampposts (Scotsman, 18 September).
A good start could be made by not allowing street stalls to use generators, but have them plug into lampposts instead.
For example, an ice cream seller is pitched next to the art gallery on Edinburgh’s Princes Street every day. It has a small generator which works constantly. It must produce a certain amount of city centre pollutants. Why is this allowed? There are nearby lampposts which could supply the necessary power.
