#UNGA

The United Nations General Assembly, which got underway yesterday, was notable for marking the debut of President Donald Trump, who gave a rambling speech in which he threatened ‘rocket man’ Kim Jong-un with destruction. @Russian_starr claimed: “Donald Trump’s speech is likely one of the most xenophobic-themed speeches in the history of the UNGA.” @Ranttnews added: “Trump called Kim Jong-un ‘Rocket Man’, reprimanded Iran, denounced Syria etc. No rebuke of Russia, who just assaulted US democracy.” @Rexhupke tweeted: “I’m no professional, but it seems to me that threatening to ‘totally destroy’ an entire country is not something a good country does.” @Derekahunter countered: “It’s nice to have a President who isn’t attacking the United States when he addresses the United Nations. Been a while.”

#VINCECABLE

Lib Dem leader Vince Cable insisted in his first conference speech in the job that he could become a credible Prime Minister. He criticised Tory and Labour over Brexit stances. @Mattchorley tweeted: “Vince Cable wanted Skyfall to play for his speech, but aide pointed out the first line is ‘This is the end’.” @Drnostromo added: “Vince Cable does not only think he could be the next Prime Minister, he also thinks the Lib Dems are a centrist party. How delusional.” @Henrymance wrote: “Paradox of the Lib Dems – they are proudest of their coalition record, which is the same thing voters dislike most about them.” @Jamesrbuk agreed: “If the Lib Dems sit back and wait for the voters to applaud them for their role in coalition, they’ll struggle to hold their 12 seats.”

#RIOFERDINAND

Former Man United and England defender Rio Ferdinand, one of the best British footballers of his generation, has announced plans to move into of professional boxing. @Jameshelder_ advised: “I genuinely like @rioferdy5 but we don’t need another Frieddie Flintoff moment mugging off the sport. Take up golf geezer.” @Robsummerfield1 joked: “Rio Ferdinand is thinking of taking up boxing. What provokes a man who sits in a studio with Owen and Savage into wanting to punch someone?”
