Legendary boxer Jake Lamotta, famed for his fights with Sugar Ray Robinson and immortalised in the classic film Raging Bull, died aged 95. Lamotta was played by Robert Deniro in the 1980 film, and passed away yesterday due to complications of pneumonia. @Pauliedgibson added: “Rest in peace somehow doesn’t seem appropriate for Jake Lamotta. You know he’s up there now asking Sugar Ray for another go.” @Chrismannixys tweeted: “RIP Jake Lamotta. What a life and what a career. His six fights with Sugar Ray Robinson stands as one of boxing’s greatest rivalries.” @Johnrawling observed: “The champ Jake Lamotta was the inspiration for Raging Bull. He was seven times married and had six kids. Sometimes bad but perhaps the hardest ever.”

Quite extraordinary.”
