Explosion next to nuclear station

Emergency services were called to a nuclear power station after an explosion nearby.

Yesterday’s incident happened next to the Hunterston B plant in North Ayrshire at about 3:20pm. There was a loud bang following a component failure in a substation at the Western Link site.

A Scottishpo­wer spokesman said: “Emergency services attended as a matter of routine but were not required. There were no injuries, no disruption to the electricit­y network and no risk to the nuclear power station.”
