- By SCOTT REID

Scottish breweries are in line for a six-figure sales boost when Aldi’s 13th “beer festival” kicks off this week.

The in-store event will showcase the country’s successful craft beer industry, and will feature 35 beers from a similar number of breweries.

The festival is expected to generate sales worth more than £127,000 for the breweries involved. It will also feature three beers exclusive to the discount supermarket operator, made by Alechemy Brewing in Livingston, Eyeball Brewing in Cockenzie and Strathaven Ales.

Graham Nicolson, group buying director for Aldi in Scotland, said: “This will be our 13th Scottish beer festival and its popularity shows no signs of slowing down.

“Our first festival launched in 2012 and since then the instore festivals have generated in excess of £1.8 million worth of sales for Scotland’s craft breweries.”

Aldi will be headline sponsor of the Scottish Beer Awards.
