Wallace dropped from elite squad as Murdoch steps up
Olympic silver medallist Dan Wallace has been left out of British Swimming’s performance squad for the 2018 season.
Wallace, who will lose his elite-podium funding as a result, was suspended for three months in June following a drink-driving offence.
North Berwick’s Wallace was part of the Great Britain 4x200metres freestyle relay squad which won silver in Rio, and won three medals at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Fellow Scot Ross Murdoch had his full funding restored after a strong performance at the World Championships in Budapest earlier this year.
A total of 56 athletes across podium and podium potential squads have been selected for the world-class performance programme for 2017-18.
British Swimming national performance director Chris Spice said: “The sport enjoyed a successful 2017 but we know that our aims and ambitions don’t end there.
“This year’s investment is going to enable our talented swimmers to continue to achieve their performance targets as they set their sights on Tokyo 2020.”
