Sea level mystery
I was intrigued by a Scotsman article earlier this year, according to which ‘meteorologists’ have predicted that sea levels around the Firth of Clyde will rise 47 cm (or 470mm) by 2080, driven by climate change and this apparently forms the basis for a study by Scottish Natural Heritage.
At present satellite measurements conducted by University of Colorado show an annual increase of 3.2mm without showing any acceleration.
Over 53 years this amounts to 150mm or a third of the prediction. NOAA tide gauges world wide are showing around 1.8mm p.a. on average (without acceleration), but there are fluctuations between locations due to geo-
