Grant rejoins Warriors on short-term deal as Fagerson signs pro contract

- By DUNCAN SMITH

Former British and Irish Lions prop Ryan Grant is officially a Glasgow Warriors player again after signing what the club described as a “short-term deal”.

The 31-year-old, who toured with the Lions in 2013, left Scotstoun in January for Worcester but has rejoined after spending some time training and playing in preseason for Edinburgh.

The loosehead prop made 109 appearances in his first spell for the club and left for the other Warriors vowing to rediscover his best form after missing large parts of 2016 with arm and back injuries.

Glasgowcoachdaverennie said: “Oli Kebble is out for an extended period of time. We were very fortunate to have someone of Ryan’s experience and quality, with over 100 games for the Warriors, and who is very passionate about the club.

“He has had a few injury issues and we want to make sure he can fulfil his side of the bargain and we can get some game time from him.

“I guess they [Edinburgh] were looking for different things but I’ve been really impressed by Ryan since he has been here. He has certainly been prepared to work. He is rehabbing back from injury but our trainers are working really hard on a programme that will make him resilient.”

Grant, who has 25 Scotland caps, said: “The opportunity to come up here is one I took with both hands. Not many players are lucky enough to come back here after they leave, I consider myself very lucky to have already played over 100 times for the club and hopefully I can add to that.”

Back-row forward Matt Fagerson could feature off the bench against Benetton tonight after signing a professional contract with the club. The 19-year-old has agreed a deal until 2020 to join his brother Zander in the Warriors professional ranks.

He said: “Signing with the Glasgow Warriors is a dream come true. It was an easy decision for me to make. I had a good chat with Zander, he loves it here and I thoroughly enjoyed my experiences playing last year too. I’m really looking forward to the next two and a half years.”

Warriors have also signed 24-year-old Glasgow Hawks back Bobby Beattie in a partnership deal until the end of the season after he impressed in pre-season games.
