Highland bussing

- D SEENAN Murieston, West Lothian

I refer to your article regarding teachers required in Arisaig (Scotsman, 28 September). It is common practice around Scotland to bus children from outlying areas to large central schools. Arisaig is only seven miles from Mallaig and I would have thought bussing the children to Mallaig primary school would be the first option.

Attractive as Arisaig is, it is in the back of beyond and I’m sure has a very limited list of potential candidates willing to live in or travel to the area. The solution is a seven mile bus ride up the road.

By all means live in an idyllic setting but understand there are downsides, which are your responsibility to deal with.
