Period poverty

- JUNE VASEY Aberlady, East Lothian

I wholeheartedly agree with the campaign to provide sanitary products to alleviate ‘period poverty’ in low income families, especially within the school environment.

However, perhaps I am missing the point of Glasgow airport providing free sanitary products to all female passengers?

First, people who are flying (in general) must have had money to purchase the ticket .

Second, by giving the products out freely to all and sundry it will invite people who are not in the low income bracket to take advantage and abuse the goodwill.

I am sure the airport will not be means testing people.

Therefore, surely the airport would be better sponsoring the ‘period poverty’ initiative in terms of cash so that the money can be used to purchase the necessary products to be given to the women and girls who need them the most.
