Weir targets leaders in Elgin promotion push
Elgin City manager Jim Weir is looking for his side to announce themselves as promotion contenders by defeating league leaders Stirling Albion at Forthbank.
After defeating Montrose 3-0 last weekend, Weir wants to add further impetus to their season. He said: “Stirling have been excellent all season apart from one slip-up against Clyde. They have good strikers but we had a ruthless side to our game last weekend and if we can display that again then we can win this one.”
As second-placed Peterhead welcome Berwick Rangers, manager Jim Mcinally said: “We had a disappointing run of two defeats and one draw but two wins after that look to have us motoring.”
Stenhousemuir aim to consolidate their play-off place further by defeating visitors Edinburgh City in the first-ever league meeting of the clubs. Warriors manager Brown Ferguson said “We have done well to creep almost unnoticed into third place on the back of a six-game unbeaten run. We want to keep putting distance between ourselves and other teams chasing a play-off place.”
Montrose, who have not won in three games, face visitors Clyde who have yet to fulfil their potential. Gable Endies boss Stewart Petrie, left, said: “We have not scored first in our recent games. In this league that is crucial.” Cowdenbeath go to Annan after breaking their ten-hour goal drought against Clyde last weekend. Said manager Billy Brown: “We have plenty of confidence as it felt like a win.”
