Peter Moffat’s promising new six-part drama is set in Aden in 1965 at the fag-end of the British Empire. Royal Military Police Captain Joe Martin (Jeremy Neumark Jones) and his wife Honor (Jessie Buckley) are new to both army and married life. Joe will replace the outgoing and much loved Captain Page, whose farewell party the men are currently planning, and has to navigate a complex social and political scene while also dealing with a terrorist insurgency.

The drama aims to capture a world of danger, heat and glamour where grenade attacks, roadside mines and sniper actions sit alongside gin and tonic, polka dot bikinis and fish and chips at the BP beach club.

The show, a co-production with Amazon, is partly based on Moffat’s childhood memories, his father’s life as an officer in the Royal Military Police and his mother’s struggle between being what the army required her to be and being the person she wanted to be. Also starring Stephen Campbell Moore and Jessica Raine.
