Damned Rebel Bitches

Scotland’s annual Luminate Festival of creative ageing begins tomorrow; and here, as its opening shot, is the latest show from the brilliant Sandy Thomson of Poorboy, co-produced with Mull Theatre. Sisters Ella and Irene are both over 80, but they are not interested in conventional ideas about how little old ladies should behave. From the Clydeside blitz to downtown Manhattan in 2012, during Hurricane Sandy, they pursue their futures with fierce determination and a fabulous play-list of songs, from Nina Simone to Beyoncé; in a show full of guts and surprises, featuring a cast of four led by Tina Gray.
