Rob Roy producer’s anger at Neil Oliver’s conservation charity role
The film producer behind the big-screen version of Rob Roy has branded the appointment of Neil Oliver as the new president of Scotland’s conservation charity “insane.”
Peter Broughan, who also produced The Flying Scotsman, the story of cycling hero Graeme Obree, has accused the National Trust for Scotland of making a “foolish appointment” of a “divisive” figure. And he has demanded the trust call an emergency general meeting due to “mismanagement” which led to archeologist Oliver’s appointment.
Hard-core Scottish nation- 0 Neil Oliver’s appointment at NTS raised nationalist hackles alists have been campaigning to have the broadcaster and author removed from NTS over his views on independence.
Oliver revealed last year that he had been forced to abandon social media due to abuse he was being subjected to over his political views.
NTS chairman Moir Lockhead has defended the appointment of someone who had “spent much of his adult life championing Scotland and its heritage”.
Writing in The Scotsman today, Broughan said: “My wife and I recently received notice that our annual membership of the trust was due for renewal. Despite having our address and membership details the trust did not see fit to give us notice of the recent AGM. Had they done so we would have attended and objected most strongly.”
