MSP gets question ban for not declaring interest
Millionaire MSP Alexander Burnett has been sanctioned by Holyrood after he failed to register an interest when asking questions at the Scottish Parliament.
MSPS unanimously agreed the Conservative be barred from lodging any written questions for two weeks after Holyrood’s October recess.
It comes after former SNP MSP Christian Allard made a complaint that Mr Burnett had failed to register an interest he had in a housing development in Banchory when he put forward five questions about plans for an Aberdeenshire development in August 2016.
The Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life investigated the matter and 0 Alexander Burnett: Twoweek ban on written questions concluded the MSP for Aberdeenshire West was in breach of the regulations.
The ban will run from 23 October to 5 November.
Standards Committee convener Clare Adamson said: “We consider that the breach justifies the imposition of a sanction on Alexander Burnett.”
