Turkish court hearings: Erdogan plotters get life in prison for attempted coup to topple president

The court sentenced 40 suspects, most of them former military special forces personnel, to life in prison yesterday convicting them of charges that include attempting to kill Mr Erdogan during the failed coup. On the night of the coup there was an attempt to capture – or allegedly assassinate – Mr Erdogan, who was staying at a luxury hotel in the Marmaris resort in south-west Turkey.
