● Haggas’ charge can make most of switch to handicap

- By GLENDALE

Musical Terms has plenty of appeal as he makes a switch in company to tackle the Bet toteexacta At betfred.com Handicap at Chelmsford.

William Haggas’ charge moves into the handicap sphere after shedding his maiden tag at the fourth attempt at Ripon in August.

He has taken a while to find a winning groove but this son of Shamardal had hardly been disgraced when placing on his first three attempts and a gelding operation in June seems to have worked the oracle.

Haggas found a suitable opportunity and Musical Terms took full advantage, winning what was only a moderate event in merely workmanlike fashion.

The handicapper has subsequently dropped him 1lb to a mark of 77 which perhaps tells its own story, but Musical Terms’ confidence should now be augmented.

Haggas can also be on the mark with Feint in the Bet Totewin At Betfred.com Fillies’ Handicap. She ran a respectable race when second at Bath in June and her mark of 73 does not pitch her too highly.

Alan King takes the wraps off Sceau Royal as he tackles the Lodders Solicitors Novices’ Chase at Warwick. The fiveyear-old retains a rating of 154 despite having failed to really build on early season victories at Cheltenham and Wincanton. His sixth in the Champion Hurdle was a fair effort but he could not make his presence felt in the Scottish Champion Hurdle. Given he has been found wanting in the best company over the smaller obstacles, this looks the right time to have a shot over fences.
