Dunfermline Cup nightmare

-

This season, Dunfermline’s average gate is 6,089, our highest Irn-bru Cup one being 1,462. Falkirk have slashed prices for our tie on Saturday. This is symptomatic of a competition which, despite six guises, remains a financial, logistical and unappealing nightmare.

One feels for Elgin City travelling eight hours to Llansantffraid (or is it Oswestry in England?) Derisory gates at cup ties involving Premiership U20 teams, and their regular defeats, put paid to plans to include them in League 2. But the “Trojan Horse” is the inclusion of Welsh, Northern Irish and Eire teams to set the precedent for Celtic playing in England. The Pars, with five players on international duty, will surely send a fringe team to Falkirk, unlike on 4 November!
