Zoo helps save endangered snail
Hundreds of endangered tree snails have been sent back to their native island of Tahiti as part of an international zoo conservation project.
The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) sent four varieties of Partula snail which had been bred at Edinburgh Zoo, to be released into the snail’s native ranges in Polynesia.
Partula snail populations were decimated in the 1970s after the predatory “rosy wolf snail” was introduced from Florida to rid the islands of an alien species.
