Sons survive keeper scares

-

Dumbarton secured a first win in 13 attempts over Stranraer, with their 2-0 home success taking Stephen Aitken’s side through to the last eight of the Irn-bru Cup.

Dumbarton took the lead after 12 minutes when Craig Barr showed nifty footwork to create space following a free-kick and cracked a shot home from eight yards.

Home goalkeeper Scott Gallacher limped off with 31 minutes gone, and then replacement keeper Jamie Ewings went down injured early in the second half.

Ewings soldiered on and Dumbarton breathed easier on 65 minutes when Mark Stewart headed home a Tom Walsh cross to double their lead.

Stephen Okoh’s injury time goal via the post was Stranraer’s only consolation as they exited the competition.
