Swinney in Hopkins jibe at Tory chief

Scotland’s education secretary, John Swinney, has compared Tory leader Ruth Davidson to the right-wing pundit Katie Hopkins.

The former Apprentice candidate was at the centre of controversy recently when it emerged she had been booked to address pupils at Scottish state schools as part of a nationwide public speaking tour.

Mr Swinney told delegates yesterday: “We will not be listening to rightwing, educationally illinformed Twitter personalities who haven’t done their homework.

“And no, I don’t mean Katie Hopkins. I mean Ruth Davidson.”

Ms Hopkins’ “Stand Strong” event is a onehour talk involving questions and answers with the pundit.
