First person to be convicted by GPS tracker
A bungling burglar has become the first in the country to be jailed after he was traced to a series of break-ins by a GPS tracker fitted to his leg following his release from prison.
Stuart Campbell, a 42-yearold “professional burglar”, from Havant, Hampshire, pleaded guilty at Portsmouth Crown Court to five burglaries in the small town of Waterlooville, which he committed hours after having the tracker fitted.
He asked for a further 12 burglaries to be taken into consideration and was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment on Friday.
