Trump: One thing will work with North Korea

- By MARGARET NEIGHBOUR

“Only one thing will work” in negotiations with North Korea after years of talks with the Kim regime brought no results, US President Donald Trump has warned.

Mr Trump said that 25 years of talks had failed, with “agreements violated before the ink was dry, makings fools of US negotiators. Sorry, but only one thing will work!”

His comments were followed by words of support from the Japanese government.

Japan’s prime minister Shinzo Abe said his government fully backs the US stance on pressuring North Korea over its nuclear weapons programme, with all options on the table.

In a televised debate on Sunday between leaders of the major political parties, Mr Abe said North Korea had failed to deliver on past promises to give up its pursuit of nuclear technology.

“Their nuclear capability has reached to this level and we cannot afford being deceived by them again,” Mr Abe said.
