Commercial claims firm launches in Edinburgh

0 Bruce Farquhar, left, and Alistair Dean say business owners are often failing to pursue claims A company helping Scottish businesses pursue commercial claims is launching this week, expecting high interest from the construction sector and insolvency practitioners in particular.

Edinburgh-based Alba Claims has been set up by Anderson Strathern chair Bruce Farquhar and solicitor advocate Alistair Dean, with clients pursuing cases on a “no win no fee” basis.

It has been established after perceiving that business owners often fail to pursue claims, with tens of millions of pounds failing to be recovered every year. It also said it has already generated about £1 million of claims that are being pursued.

Dean said claims are often not sought because firms are either “not in a financial position to fund the claim or consider that their finances can get a better return elsewhere”.

Farquhar also commented: “The funding of litigation in Scotland is changing rapidly and we see Alba Claims being at the forefront of these changes.”
