Six-time world champion Miguel Cotto will end his boxing career with a world light middleweight title fight against Sadam Ali on 2 December. The 36-year-old Puerto Rican, who has held titles at four different weights, will defend his WBO belt for the final time at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Cotto has 41 wins from 46 fights, with Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez inflicting three of his five defeats.

Robert Kubica completed a test for Williams yesterday as the British team weigh up whether to offer him a sensational return to Formula 1. The Pole trialled a 2014-specification Williams at Silverstone, which was labelled a “success”. The team have one available seat alongside Canadian teenager Lance Stroll in 2018. Felipe Massa and Scottish driver Paul Di Resta are also under consideration. Kubica partially severed his right arm in a rallying crash in 2011 that brought a sudden halt to a grand prix career which had seen him earmarked as a future champion. He made 76 grands prix starts, finishing on the podium 12 times and winning the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix.
