First senior challenge for proud Colville

- By CRAIG P STEWART

Colville Park manager Michael Kennedy will feel pride as well as the weight of responsibility when the Motherwell-based Scottish Amateur Cup holders take on Peterhead at Balmoor in the second round of the Scottish Cup this afternoon.

Kennedy is delighted that his tight-knit squad are facing up to a senior side for the first time. He said: “We are massive underdogs but this is a proud moment. The players have been together for three years and enjoyed a bit of success during that time with two successive Scottish Amateur Cup wins.

“The boys are like family and that has helped us achieve. We deserve to be in this competition but this is a different level of opponent.”

Colville travelled up to Aberdeen last night for an overnight stay.

“We are doing everything we can to make as good an impression as we can,” Kennedy added. “We have a massive responsibility to the thousands of amateur players up and down the country to show that it is a good level of football.”

Peterhead manager Jim Mcinally said: “We will not under-estimate our opponents. Colville have six or seven players I recognised from senior games. Chris Craig was with Rangers and a lot of their play goes through him so we need to stop his supply.”
