Hastings keeps his place as Currie look to build on brilliant comeback win

- By GARY HEATLY

After an amazing comeback last weekend Currie head into this afternoon’s home match with Stirling County looking for their fifth win of the BT Premiership season.

When the Chieftains were 27-0 down at home to Glasgow Hawks seven days ago they looked out of things, but Ben Cairns’ side are made of stern stuff and they battled back to win 29-27. It leaves them in third place heading into round seven of fixtures and head coach Cairns has shown faith with the squad.

There are no changes, meaning Glasgow Warriors’ Adam Hastings is at standoff and Cairns said: “This is another match with a number of exciting young talents on show and we would hope the Malleny faithful come out to get behind the boys in what is an important match.”

County have slipped to sixth, but are just a point off the play-off spots.

They make a change in the pack with Shaun Macdonald earning a start at seven after making a positive impact from the bench in the last two games.

Bruce Colvine, Dan Elkington and Ruaridh Knott come into the starting XV for leaders Melrose as they look to keep up their impressive start.

The Borders side welcome Marr to The Greenyards and the men from Troon have Craig Kolarik in the key position of stand-off after Colin Sturgeon headed away travelling. Back-row Fraser Grant also comes into the starting XV.

Second-placed Heriot’s head to Ayr, in fourth place, and the two sides have had some cracking battles in recent times.

Alex Ball starts at scrumhalf for the visitors with Tom Wilson injured while skipper Rory Carmichael moves from centre to stand-off.

Robbie Nairn, the former Scotland age-grade cap, starts on the wing for Ayr.

Fifth plays eighth at New Anniesland with Hawks meeting Watsonians.

The hosts have the experienced duo of Gary Strain and Davie Milne coming into the starting XV.

Rory Drummond and Ali Harris impressed off the bench for Sonians last week and start this one.

The bottom two – Boroughmuir and Hawick – meet at Meggetland, captain Bruce Mcneil back for the visitors.
